Ponett Gazette (new blog!)
ponett.dog/blog/

i love cohost but the structure of this site means every few weeks i'll log on and half my feed will be discussing some kind of discourse - either discussing some phenomenon without naming names or just vaguing about how there's some unspecified discourse on their feed (like i'm doing right now!) - and it'll just be impossible to track down the root of the discourse. this is good for when i want to go "welp. not my problem" and close the tab, but less good for when i want to know what the hell people are actually talking about. and because the community on here is small and fairly insular it's easy for it to feel like some discourse has taken over The Entire Site and you're just out of the loop on it

in reply to @ponett's post:

It also makes it extremely difficult to get to the root facts of it, which means certain voices can dominate the Discourse without providing any factual information. It does kinda make for a Misinformation Telephone situation...

believe me when i say there IS discourse on here, it's just that without an algorithmic feed if no one you follow is posting about it and you don't find it in a tag then you won't hear about it

i am in many ways grateful to be out of the loop of these. its rare that the discourse is actionable or even meaningful, especially on this site. it's not like political protests or real-world communal action is being organised here through this discourse. i'm not usually in the mood to read public callouts.

As Feybeasts says, it does feel like a misinformation telephone game. if it's important enough, someone will dedicate the time to give a long and detailed take on it which i will eventually come across.
