The "Numerous" formed the backbone of Demonic infantry in the latter years of the The Demon War. As The Hero caused more and more of the demihuman soldiers rebel, the demons had fewer and fewer reliable soldiers to call. Even obedience collared soldiers would boycott battles.
Their first appearance was in intelligence reports submitted by the Hero's Deep Penetration Party, as he mentioned dwarf soldiers covered in thick bark. That had no obedience collars but readily sacrificed themselves in suicidal charges.
They were physiologically similar to the goblins in having plant like tissues and taller than the standard goblin with an engorged head, but their standout distinguishing feature, could only be discovered after they were killed, which was only 1 of 12 had a brain.
The other 11 had only a stem on the spine with a coiled bronze wire inside their skulls with a foxtail-like end, which felt to me was an antenna. It was noticed sometimes when one Numerous was killed, sometimes another 11 would flop over. That was the "lead" unit.
"Numerous" units introduced a new weapon for their formations, the "Good Day", a combination of cudgel and spear.
It's a thick 1.2m pole, with an austere spike, and 3-5 protruding metal bumps. "Numerous" infantry would shout "A good day! A good day!" before charging.
In response, grenadiers and bayonets joined Imperial infantry to deal with the Numerous. Grenades disrupt massed charges, and bayonets offered a melee option. Pikehands had many folk beliefs to identify a "lead" Numerous, but there were no records any of these techniques worked.
