One of the least understood forms of magical girl magic is what’s known as Induced Prosopagnosia and Hypersociability, people exposed to a magical girl reported warmth and a need to interact but were otherwise unable to identify their face. It’s believed this is a natural defense.

Physical and electronic reproductions of a face from security cameras or film based traps have run into the same problem with even highly pixelated or blurry examples producing a similar but reduced effect on a non-linear scale.

However people have been found to be able to negate 1 or sometimes 2 aspects of the face that they did not see. Operation ENDLESS LOVE is currently working on negation based profiling of extant magical girls to identify them by asking confirmed witnesses 2 counterfactuals each.

Operation ENDLESS LOVE has already succeeded in paring down the finite discrete facial spectrum down from 2.05 billion to just above 32 million facial possibilities per magical girl currently operating in just 3 years. Work is continuing and funding allocated.

An alternative approach currently funded is Operation THIRSTY WORK, which is an analogue data encoding hunt for a divisible analogue data format and corresponding photo trap that can be worked on and assembled later on. Their biggest success is Object 178 or the Denim Shroud.

Object 178 is actually 28 separate pieces of clothing treated with a proprietary indigo forming light-sensitive chemical, that's otherwise invisible combined with xenon powered UV light trap that captured a degraded image of a Hokkaido based magical girl in action on 6 February 2022.

The treated clothes were then stabilized after the trap was triggered and then cut up to form the final image. Homeowners were told a clothes vandal was responsible for the missing clothing and any spuriously blue clothing.

Object 178 is a fairly high quality indigo-type of a flying magical girl that does not trigger the effect even after reassembly. Despite capturing fine details such as individual hairs, skin detail is nil. It’s believed this is due to extremely low skin reflectivity of EUV.

Another possible factor is the extremely low efficiency of the Xenon light traps. Research has shown it is around 1% in practical conditions however a dual laser tin droplet plasma source could get efficiencies up to 6%. This discovery proved more useful to industry partners.

For obvious reasons, it is easy to hide extra xenon lamps on a building's exterior lighting to be triggered when necessary, but it's hard to disguise or even power dual laser tin droplet plasma sources in a satisfactory manner. Better photochemicals are also being trialed.
