I assume this is just a general thing in combat—if you disarm someone, you don't have any obligation to fight them. But the thing this makes me think about is in Predator, where disarming Anna immediately so that she never has a gun and never counts as a threat, as a "fair target". Don't want to kill someone, disarm them and basically pretend they weren't armed in the first place.
