I'm gonna start posting my taskmaster scoring on here why not! taskmaster UK series 15 episode 1 and 2 spoilers since I didn't post it last week. I don't bother recording scores for each task, just for the episode, but I'll include some thoughts/explanations

episode 1

  • frankie: 8 (-4)
  • ivo: 11 (+2)
  • jenny: 17 (-1)
  • kiell: 16 (-1)
  • mae: 17 (-2)

not too much of a difference here. taskmaster statsman jack bernhardt made a pretty compelling argument (which I did not see when I scored this, for the record) that frankie could justifiably have been given one point for the entire episode and I think greg was very generous giving him 12. I disqualified him from the barge task for touching one of the rings and gave him 1 point for his way more than 1kg prize task

episode 2

  • frankie: 11 (-5)
  • ivo: 19 (+2)
  • jenny: 15
  • kiell: 11 (-3)
  • mae: 22 (+6)

biggest difference here was prize tasks. greg's argument that "a mirror doesn't make you feel weird, it's the reflection, and the back of the mirror wouldn't do anything" is absolute madness to me. how do you offer a reflection as a prize? a fucking mirror, greg!! 4 points for mae! foot in a glove still wins lmao. sorry to frankie but I don't feel weird seeing the famous funny meme of medieval cat illustrations. magic eyes genuinely do make me feel weird because they compel me to stare at them until I get dizzy. #JusticeForJenny

I think greg was way too generous with the musical task and frankie took a hit there but I still gave him 2 points because drums are way harder to mime convincingly. I gave mae 5 because (without knowing the task yet) they made the double bass sound so bad that I could actually have believed those sounds were coming from a pile of trash

on the other hand, I thought greg was really harsh on the breath task! mae's marble run was legitimately impressive, and in a turn of events that actually shocked me I found myself backwards-impressed by how humiliating ivo's attempt was. he set himself two goals, brought in an outside observer, and then completely blew it. (ha ha) 4 points!

current totals:

  • frankie: 19 (-9)
  • ivo: 30 (+4)
  • jenny: 32 (+1)
  • kiell: 27 (-2)
  • mae: 39 (+4)

overall I tend to be a lot stricter on the rules and the wording of the tasks than greg is and I think frankie has really suffered there. his prize tasks haven't really fit the brief, he's already gotten a DQ, and beyond that I think he's had some pretty weak tasks generally. kiell has had a rough start, but I think he's a strong competitor who's had some bad luck in the studio tasks so far. he and mae are the ones to watch, imo

great series so far! I only really knew kiell from ghosts and ivo from a couple clips I've seen of british as folk. didn't know what to expect from any of them, as I rarely do, but the chemistry is great and the tasks have been a lot of fun

same re: Frankie in e1 and Kiell in e2 :yeah: i assume you DQ'd him from the breath task like i did? may have just been how the clips were edited but his definitely did not appear to have the breath be functional at all, in contrast to Mae's which seemed pretty clearly breath-started (though i agree with greg that, for a breath task, it just didn't seem worthy of 5 points). also man Jenny really deserved more for the curtain blowout lmao

my general rule of thumb with DQs is that they get a point unless they violated an explicit rule or failed to achieve the task at all. was it impressive that Kiell blew on a golf ball? absolutely not. but he did successfully achieve, in a single breath, the effect of "blew on a golf ball"! so that's something!

I'm really digging the vibe so far of this crew. As a Canadian I am legally required to support Mae but they've also been smashing it out of the park. Kiell's foot in a glove was some next level upsetting shit. Jenny brings that special weird energy older women seem to really excel at on the show.

I'm a little worried that with Ivo's Radio 4 energy he might genuinely break into tears but the olds seem to be being very kind to him instead of bullying him, which helps assuage my worries some.

I was most curious about Frankie when the cast was announced but I think I forgot that unlike a lot of Edgy Comedians, Frankie's actually learned and grown as a person over the years and the edge comes from anger about things worth getting angry about, so here he's just having a lovely time.
