people make fun of the anti-smoking/vaping brand Truth which I get but also I do think they're doing the important work of getting the message out that vaping is actually really fucking bad for you. it took so many decades (centuries, really) for the world to finally acknowledge that smoking tobacco is extremely harmful to yourself and the people around you, and e-cigarettes showed up and somehow the vape industry was allowed to push this idea that they're actually good. they're not! you're putting shit tons of nicotine into your body which is toxic and addictive, and because the delivery method is less physically aggravating than inhaling smoke (not to mention a vape cartridge is equivalent to multiple cigarettes) it's way easier to effectively chain-smoke a vape. it honestly freaks me out watching streamers vaping for hours on end. I was a kid in the middle of the big cultural shift where it became socially unacceptable to chain-smoke especially around other people, and now we're back to having celebrities and influencers doing the same thing in a package largely free of the stigma that cigarettes have garnered

to say nothing of the fact that there are people my age who are now pushing back on that in the first place like "yeah but smoking does look cool lol" fuck that. you think it looks cool because the billion dollar corporations with a vested interest in harming you have sold you on the idea that it looks cool which it doesn't

anyway. personal liberty etc. etc. vaper's rights etc. but we've got a new generation of nicotine addicts who are going to have severe health issues later as they get older and that sucks. they did it to us before and they did it to us again and in 200 years when people finally acknowledge that vaping is bad for you, they'll come out with a new thing called e-vaping where you put even more nicotine in your body through an even more friendly-looking delivery system and say it's healthier than vaping. whatever

I watched a documentary recently about one if the vape pioneer companies (can't remember the name but it was really stupid) and the first moment I realized they had a marketing guy and engineer on product design but not a single doctor even as a consultant I knew there was gonna be trouble. I still remember them putting out their first prototype and then being super surprised when people kept getting burn wounds from it.
