No offense to Mastodon and the people who use and enjoy it but when I see people pushing it as a long term replacement for Twitter it's like man... do you really believe hundreds of millions of people are going to tolerate how obtuse it is? It's fine for certain types of way-too-online weirdos (again, no offense) but I can't imagine my mom trying to sign up for a Mastodon account and getting to the front page and seeing "welcome! To join Mastodon, find a server that meets your unique needs and we'll show you to your federated feed!" and saying ah yes this all sounds good to me
Cohost definitely is not going to be "The New Twitter" either. Obviously. I don't know if anything ever will completely match what Twitter is and what it has been. But Mastodon's never going to be that lmao. And that's fine, but people can stop trying to get me to pick an instance and start tooting because it's not happening
