All I know is that the only detailed threads are originating from the same person who yes, is one of the co-founders of dreamwidth, and so is an experienced social media developer person.
But I'm old and so remember the great migration from livejournal and I know I went to tumblr instead of dreamwidth because one of my friends had some experiences with said co-founder that were negative enough she straight-up went NOPE not throwing my eggs into a basket this person owns.

there's another thread I saw which is building on that person's thread and it's all so ludicrously angry and bad faith. frankly I don't understand why I'm supposed to be against the idea of people making a website who aren't big tech veterans funded by VC vampires
the fun thing is cohost did update their TOS in response to complaints this very week, so they could have just literally talked it out with them instead of shaming people for signing up for a website, a thing that helps nobody
in the thread from today there was a tweet that was like "and by the way don't fucking reply like wahhh wahh they updated their TOS. I saw that 'update' that their 'lawyer' provided and it's still shit." ¯_(ツ)_/¯
