I accidentally forgot to opt out of Old Navy marketing emails when I bought some stuff online the other day and since them they have sent me no fewer than three emails a day, all with all caps subject lines like "CONGRATULATIONS! 15% OFF JEANS!"

I unsubscribed just now (let this be a reminder to anyone reading that you should unsubscribe from marketing emails and not just ignore them) but my god. The thought that there are people out there living like this... marketers really are sick in the head

I had to take marketing classes for my degree and it's baffling how a marketing person's mind basically works different from any other person alive. My teacher was all "Emails are a great way to engage your clients!" and no matter how much I tried to explain that no, people actually hate marketing emails she would just give me this bemused look and then continue her spiel.

this is how it's always felt any time my work as a software engineer has brushed up against marketing people. they are so weird. I feel like we speak different languages. I remember getting emails from them like "yeah so we want this image here to direct users to where they can shop xbox gear" and I'm like sorry did you forget the word "for" at the end there or does the word "shop" just function differently in your version of english. ALSO THEY THINK PEOPLE LIKE WHEN A WEBSITE HAS A CAROUSEL WHICH IS THE ULTIMATE CRIME
