I got an ad for a piece of shit mobile game today and it started playing music so I went to press the mute button but it turns out the mute button was fake and just opened the app store. that's gotta be one of the biggest piece of shit moves I've ever seen and I can't believe that's allowed. some piece of shit ad maker said "what if we trick them with a fake button" and then they actually did it

This, and also there's a group of ads I'm pretty much are made by the same company where pressing the close button just takes you to the app store anyway. Does that shit actually work on anyone? It makes me super suspicious and increases negative feelings towards your product. Maybe they're aiming to game so weird algorithm that makes app shop think the app is popular if people just visit it's page in the shop and that's why they're trying to force views?

it's scary because I imagine it's all made to prey on bewildered people who aren't very tech-literate, and yeah idk about views but I know that apps with more downloads get priority in search results. I don't know if this was an exploit of a bug or what but I actually stopped playing mobile games entirely for a long time a couple years ago because there were, I swear to god, ads that could download the app onto your phone if you touched the screen. they would make the X button in the corner really small and if you missed the button a window would pop up saying "DOWNLOADING NOW THANKS :)" sometimes it happened so fast I wouldn't notice the app until later. absolutely horrifying
