I watched a friend stream forspoken for a few hours last night and I think I'm comfortable saying that the hate train was excessive. the clips that were going around were cringe and they made the game look really annoying, but seeing it in action I think it's fine. not good, but fine. I think it's absolutely worth talking about why we find that style of writing, and everyone's been talking about austin walker's piece which you've probably already read (but here it is if you haven't) and I think that sums it up pretty well but

imo, the game itself is not so much an egregious disaster of writing as it is just another in a line of Things That Are Written Like That. and we're sick of it, and we wish it would stop, but I'm not mad at forspoken anymore. honestly it looks pretty fun! and the story seems cool! and I wish frey would please stop quipping

for me, the feeling peaked a couple of days ago, right before the game was released. ooh man was I rooting for the game to be terrible! I was gearing up for a day of reading scathing reviews about a cringey pile of shit. and the reviews aren't great, but they're alright. and the game doesn't look great, but it looks alright. and I feel kind of embarrassed now lmao. don't get me wrong, I'm not sold on forspoken, and I'm not particularly interested in playing it myself. but I do regret getting so aggro about it, and I would encourage everyone else who was feeling the same way to reevaluate that and consider that maybe it was a little much

sorry forspoken! clearly a lot of people worked very hard on you. maybe if the dialogue felt a little more sincere I might even be interested in playing you. consider patching out the "hard pass" and "no shit sherlock" that I heard within two minutes of each other
