behold, my favourite pair of jeans (that my ass is now too big to wear), naked and famous rainbow cores

the process for making these is kinda cool. most denim is made using a process called rope dyeing, where the fibers are twisted tightly so that the indigo dye can only penetrate the outer layer, then when the material is worn down the inner white core of the threads shows up which results in the typical fading pattern you see on denim, raw or not. with rainbow cores (or red cores, which N&F also made around this time; they look sick as hell too) the warp threads (the vertical ones) aren't white but instead a bunch of rainbow colours before they get rope dyed

the resulting material starts out looking kinda like an oil slick on pavement—a little shimmery—then as the indigo wears off you get these insane rainbows peeking through. these jeans fucking GLOW in direct sunlight

in reply to @zellyn's post:

unfortunately, a lot of raw denim stuff operates on a similar structure to sneaker drops and other 'rare' clothing where the material manufacturer makes a single batch of the denim, a brand turns it into actual jeans to be worn and if you aren't around when it goes on sale your odds to finding it on sale is really slim.

i got these jeans in like 2013 and i believe the original denim manufacturer did another batch of rainbowcore in like 2022, so it's not a regular occurence. resellers might exist, but the price will probably be way higher and you won't even be able to try them on first, etc.

the denim maker that naked & famous uses does occasionally create other kinds of 'core' denim, like right now they have matcha selvedge which will fade into a matcha green colour instead of a rainbow
