my trick for that was to only swap a pair of letters (or a short loop of moves, 3 or 4 keys) at a time and after a while was fully converted without going through a very slow typing patch
(i happened to have a keyboard with hardware remappable keys tho, might not have cherished messing with Xorg/XKB or AutoHotKey configurations or something)
