Fate and destiny were never things that Eichi cared much for when he was younger—although, he'd be lying if he didn't say that they were also things he could only long for. A fate longer and brighter than one he felt he had, it was only something he could wish for.
And yet, he had never got such a thing.
He had been alone. The only one who fully understood him, his dear Vivian—she had left him, abandoned him in the darkness the soon engulfed him.
He could never hate her for that, though—being beside her even now, watching as she excitedly pointed out stars and made up her own constellations, shapes he couldn't follow—he could only feel pure joy that she seemed to radiate.
"Vivian," He didn't mean to interrupt her, but she didn't mind. Curious eyes turned fully to him, Eichi felt his breath catch in his throat.
He'd always compared her bright and joyful nature to the sun, but seeing her bathed in the light of moon and stars, perhaps the moon would be a much better fit.
"I can never thank you enough," Brushing his fingers along her cheek, the warmth of her skin only urging him to pull her closer.
He couldn't. At least, not yet. It was such a shame that she was so shy in receiving his affection.
"Ever since we were young, you had stayed by my side—you came back, just for me." Had she always been thinking about him during their time apart, just like he had? His chest felt like it was caving in from the weight of everything he wanted to say.
"You've become an irreplaceable part of fine. Your brightness, your enthusiasm for all of us, you really did make all of us bloom."
Vivian looked as if she wanted to say something, but her mouth only hung open wordlessly. Poor girl, even now after I've said it multiple times, she still doubts her place in my heart.
"Vivian." He brought his other hand up, holding her face as tenderly as possible, and Eichi was sure to commit this expression of hers to memory as well. "Please continue to guide us. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart—my love." The tears she shed felt like fire, burning skin right down to bone as he wiped them away with his thumbs.
"I'd be lost without you." Lips brushing over her forehead, he let out a content sigh. "I know you're merely human, but at times I feel as if you'll fly away with the wind. Stay here, won't you?"
Unlike Wataru, he couldn't pull her down from the sky, no matter how much he tried. Or, perhaps he was wishing for her freedom instead? It felt childish, pleading with her like this. But her own childish nature only served to bring his own out—it was always an endlessly refreshing time with her.
"You're... my friend, right?" The way she pushed her voice out through the sobs that shook her body, it made his heart ache so painfully. "I'm useful, right? I'm doing a good job?"
Is that really how she sees this? Eichi felt like he had been doused in ice cold water. "Vivian." He didn't mean for his voice to come out so stern, but with the way she deflated, the defeat in her eyes—
He needed to fix this as soon as possible. "Please don't make yourself sound like a tool merely for me to use and dispose of," Pressing his forehead against hers, he watched as she closed her eyes, pressing her face further against his hands as if she were seeking out all the affection she could. Almost as if she was scared it would be ripped away.
"You are so, so much more than that, Vivian. My Vivian." He wanted to kiss her, pull her even closer and melt away all those worries that seemed to be permanently stuck in her heart. Yet, he still couldn't—she was such an easily overwhelmed little thing, her heart so fragile that he feared even this show of love would break it. "I love you, to the stars and back. So please, don't think yourself so far below me—can't you help me fulfill that wish, too?"
