in honor of whatever mario-related brain terrorism nintendo drops on us tomorrow morning, i want to make sure as many people on the planet as possible are aware of this making-of teardown of a mario-branded kraft mac & cheese commercial from 1994. you're welcome.
god, i am so happy to be reminded of this. basic live boy bite. morphed boy bite with bowl fly.
i feel so many things when i watch this. i'm blown away by the astonishing craftsmanship on display, just the full brunt of late 90s filmmaking technology brought to bear on a commercial for cheese and pasta. i am also confounded by why this, of all things, was chosen for a behind the scenes breakdown. it's an astonishing snapshot of the end of the 20th century, just the pinnacle of this kind of filmmaking that would never be seen again as in the coming decade every single part of this process would just get replaced by a computer.
