because it's only been a month since the last bandcamp friday, this post will be less exhaustive than my previous bandcamp friday post. but, here's some recs!
"cherry" by daphni
daphni is a side project of dan snaith, aka caribou. it's basically his dance music project, which is funny because caribou also basically just makes dance music now. anyway, it's good.
"darklife" by death's dynamic shroud
death's dynamic shroud have really been exploring new sonic spaces lately. for a while they definitely occupied a space on the left field of vaporwave, but their latest records have been incorporating a hodgepodge of styles, going from minimalist chillout beatmakers to maximalist popsmiths. for how much is going on here, it all coheres super well.
"fs2: music for ethnically mixed weird people" by figure skater
figure skater is the new alias of miya lowe, fka evaboy. a clattering, lo-fi assortment of electronic noises in a wide variety of flavors.
"there will be no super-slave" by ghais guevara
ghais guevara is a fantastic rapper and a fantastic producer. super adventurous beatmaking and creative sampling, excellent lyricism.
"i love you jennifer b" by jockstrap
the first full-length from jockstrap pushes their music in exciting new directions, expanding their palette to include more organic elements like baroque pop. this record is really difficult to pin down sonically, but it's a blast.
"free lsd" by off!
off! is a hardcore punk supergroup, seen here expanding their sound beyond the meat and potatoes of hardcore into psych and industrial sounds, all tied together with incredible production and performances and heavy riffage.
"333" by psyche!
a collection of fun, noisy, bass-heavy rave tunes. highly enjoyable.
