this new one about "third places" seems timely (frasier losing at chess is twitter)

(I don't have deep thoughts about this but it feels appropriate that cohost is fourth website)

Not Just Bikes was the channel that woke me up to the reality that the country I live in doesn't have to be this way, and in fact most places in the world aren't. It's one of those things where once the veil is pulled back you start to see the flaws and cracks everywhere you go.

hey look we're resharing a thing without having actually watched it

we sure wouldn't feel safe doing that on Twitter (we feel a responsibility to our followers to vet things for disinformation)

anyway this sounds neat and it's now in our queue and we'll probably watch it tomorrow. love to hear other people's thoughts if you watch it too :)

I've watched a few episodes of Not Just Bikes and I had to stop.

Not because it wasn't good - oh, it's good, it's very good.

But it genuinely makes me so angry that we've fucked up every ounce of city/town infrastructure and usability all for the sake of corporate greed and so cars can rule the world.

Yeah, Not Just Bikes is a pretty great channel talking about urban design, and particularly how it impacts how you live your life. It's doing so mostly by comparing present-day Dutch infrastructure and typical North American designs, but those turn out to be so polar opposite that it's a great basis. (The creator is Canadian, but has lived in the Netherlands for several years now) Highly recommend, I've been watching his channel for quite some time now!
