elaborating on this here because the last time i talked about cohost on bluesky, i was accused of having an agenda because that website is stupid

anyway, ive just been opening tweetdeck/twitter, looking at a few tweets, then closing it because it's just... so hard to care now. the art is still there and i love it and i miss a lot of it but i get so much of it on cohost now. some from the same artists but a lot from new folks i'm excited to see more of. it's new ground! it's the first couple months of twitter/tumblr/deviantart/etc all over again.

but more importantly it's just... this place doesn't suck ass. cohost isn't a nice place, like, the edges aren't filed off and sanded down. it's a mix! people are angry on here and occasionally rude and nobody is pulling any punches on a lot of stuff. but people aren't, like, hostile. people are angry but nobody's mad, especially not at one another. there's so much vulgarity here and bad memes and worse jokes and a whole bunch of broken people but it's not a padded room! the site was designed to curb hostility and harassment and it, like, worked

idk. it's 10pm and im tired so maybe this isn't entirely cogent. i've just been thinking about how this is now the site i just gravitate back to over the course of the day the way i did with twitter for 10 years. with twitter i did it because everyone was there. with this i'm finally doing it because it feels like im on the internet again.

hard agree. ive been using Cohost more cuz of tweetdeck breaking like you said and frankly those couple of days w/o twitter really did make me want to not USE the site so much anymore. i still catch myself scroll-binging at times but it has a distinct feeling of "why am i doing this, this isnt even scratching the pavloivian itch anymore".

cohost is NOT perfect but there's such a distinct lack of HOSTILITY exactly like you mentioned. I go on twitter and every other post feels like some variant of cop-brain and i didnt realize how ingrained that had become until i started using it a little less

It's funny - I have a dedicated Porn Retweeting Account on Twitter where I follow several hundred artists & animators & performers. I honestly love that account, I love seeing everyone's new hotness and the art prompt trends and watching styles evolve. I used to check it several times a day, doing my best to miss as few posts as possible.

I think I'm on day... three or four without checking it now? Part of that is that I've had a back injury that makes sitting at my PC uncomfortable & I like checking it from there more, but moreover I'm really starting to get that itch scratched here more and more. Here just FEELS better to be on - I still get to see new art (and old art from new artists), but like Aura said, everyone on here's some kinda PERSON. Some of 'em are ANNOYING people, but I don't hafta scroll past an ad for a coal company or a dead-eyed crypto shill when I'm trying to see some titty getting glazed. It's really really nice

i have a feed that's also just my nsfw feed but even that i just... cant find the energy for. scrolling the feed sucks like the experience of using that website, even with adblock and extensions, is bad

i'm just glad this place feels like home now for the right reasons

Yeah, some other platforms that try to break the "social media toxicity" trend overcorrect and end up enforcing toxic positivity. Can't ever complain about anything can't ever be upset about anything can't ever have any opinion outside the core ingroup otherwise "you're not fit for our culture."

here at cohost I don't feel too much pressure to have to smile and line up perfectly with the values of others, while at the same time feel safe that people aren't just going to be outright hostile to each other and that hostility and bigotry is actually fairly moderated. It strikes a good balance. People are just... chill.

cohost has kinda finally hit the size where i think it could fit most people’s social media needs, and even then it still feels like a great website. the cohost project has actually succeeded, not yet financially but definitely in terms of being the website staff envisioned it would be, and i think that’s great.

Honestly? This place introduced me to a bunch of new artists and gave me a way to interact with old favorites in ways I really couldn’t before. It’s not perfect, but like you said. It’s nice here.
