The term "video game" is inferior to the term "ludcept" as a video game can be more than video and game. Ludcept includes all the possible parts that form the whole; there must be a game part along with any of the following: visuals, story, sound, et cetera. Using the term ludcept in place of the term game when describing the whole frees it for use to describe the game part, notice the use of gameplay to describe the game part when the whole is described and thought of as a game, when in fact it is something more than just a game.

honestly i'd be up for this, "video game" is pretty dumb if you think about the words! But then again so is "movie" or "film".
Between the extremely self-serious writing and the usernames like "Rinku Hero" and "PepsiRanger", I can't tell how serious this is meant to be.
I was part of this community briefly, this is completely serious. RinkuHero is still around.
Also there is so much more weird shit by the same people, like the Randian RPG they made about how Christmas brainwashes people into believing selflessness is a virtue.
The VR community has been experimenting with calling it's artifacts "experiences", as in "an experience for VR"… the main discovery from this has been that the word "experience" can't easily be abbreviated and if you try to use the word "experience" five times in a single paragraph you sound really ridiculous
This is strangely adjacent to a quest I've been on recently for a genre of video game I'm pretty sure doesn't exist. I should probably sit down and write about that at some point!
as someone who was around in those days trying (mostly unsuccessfully) to say interesting worthwhile things about games and game design, hoo boy there sure were all manner of attempts to create a Fancier More Special Word for games and they've all aged like milk. we're not clowns, we're harlequins!!

can't say i ever heard that term but it does capture a certain sense of having one's brain formed, like so much processed meat, into a Sphere.
