This game was announced almost a year ago in Spanish-speaking circles but only hit my radar just now: Bubble Ghost Remake, a 2024 PC/Switch reimagining of French dev Christophe Andréani's 1987 bubble-pushing action game, originally developed for Atari ST and converted to most of the various computers of the day, with a second conversion produced by a Japanese team (including Hitoshi Sakimoto on music) for Game Boy in 1990; it's alleged to be the first French game to ever hit Game Boy, and I don't know enough to dispute that claim.
The original game's a fairly straightforward navigation challenge: the player controls a ghost (via the mouse, or d-pad on Game Boy) tasked with moving a bubble through a series of single-screen rooms, achieved by blowing the bubble from different angles to propel it around each room, and can also move independently of the bubble to interact with various objects in very simple ways—there's a very faint veneer of puzzle gameplay but it's primarily a don't-touch-the-things maze game that challenges you to clear each room as quickly as possible, and you can beat the whole thing in fifteen minutes or so once you have it down.
This new remake looks to have gone full multi-hour adventure, with an involved narrative and collectibles and ability unlocks and boss fights etc etc and while I do understand the basic imperative to bring something fresh to an old and simple game, I don't know that the fans of this specific game were clamouring for a deep dive into the origins of Bubble and Ghost, or anything else beyond new levels and higher framerates, really. As for the art style... I mean, I don't like what I'm seeing but I do get what they're going for, so I'll reserve judgment until it's done, but again, my first thought is that they've misjudged where their money and effort ought to be going (or, more to the point, where it ought not go if they want to recoup on a game that probably won't sell all that well).
