"I've never seen this happen on MY instance" cool I've been on three different mastodon instances that have all imploded for one reason or another; another that was defederated for spurious claims making it impossible to talk to my friends without registering an account on ANOTHER instance; and know multiple people who have had their single user instances defederated due to a blocklist they were put on for no given reason, meaning there were multiple instances they were all defederated from
there's this ongoing belief that anyone who says anything bad about mastodon just "hasn't found the right instance yet" or "they don't even use mastodon, but both those things are absurd statements. the problem boils down to the very structure of federation, how it works, and how that structure streamlines/encourages certain behaviours! and honestly, a lot of that is why a lot of people who don't use mastodon actually don't use mastodon anymore, not that they never used it
