I was pretty fucked up from the gunshots, so many holes in me that all the Dutch boys at all the dams in the world couldn't stuff me up. I felt like I was full of blood up to my hips, just sloshing around in there, like a SCUBA diver who'd just pissed himself after seeing a particularly big shark. I found another conspicuously placed medicine cabinet full of painkillers. I took all of them. I imagined the blood level going down, till it only reached my shoes. Blood shoes. Little ruby slippers. But I wasn't getting out of Oz anytime soon.
