i don't believe there are any principles per say besides being able to serve as sponsor space (in most cases, that's not even applicable sometimes); so usually somewhat eye catchy and readable.
it's a lot more about the vibe which is going to change on a team by team or brand by brand basis. a quick example of that would be comparing this year's Monster outfit, Goodsmile Racing outfit and Team Studie outfit. all wildly different and more or less representing the team's vibes

i do not know the principles of rq outfits but i can say that this is fantastic
