Old and current Trondheim trams.
The world's northernmost tram network has a troubled past: the system was originally established in 1901 and thrived well into the 1980s, when the network was closed down after a prolonged debate in 1988 (despite new trams, the white ones seen here, being only acquired in 1985). However, a new company was formed by the locals, which reopened the Gråkallbanen, linking the city center to Lian, in 1990.
There have since been several plans to re-expand the network, but so far the local politicians have opted to develop the public transport system based on buses instead.
