You know you're right actually, I got so used to updates being nothingburgers or worse that I forgot that updates used to be important and cool
stuff like winamp adding cd ripping (even if it kinda sucked) or mirc adding unicode support, rather than "here's a new shapes button to encourage you to give us more money"
I think about this all the time like I remember being a kid on the family PC and if some piece of software upgraded from like 4.6 to 4.7 or whatever it often meant like new features, bugs fixed, maybe an improved UI. The novelty kinda wore off as I got older but it was one of those things that was kinda fun and exciting.
I'm still using an old version of the Garmin app because they updated the UI of the main screen and made it impossible to see all your data for the day without scrolling a bunch and clicking through to other pages.
Every so often I check to reviews to see if they've reverted it, and there's just a bunch of people saying it sucks, even after months of trying to get used to it.
