Trans rights are human rights. BLM. Bodily autonomy is a human right.

I stream occasionally. It'll probably be Monster Hunter.

A white Nissan Clipper, a kei-class truck featuring a short, compact cabin and a covered bed relatively low to the ground.

A friend. A gentle pal. A little beep-beep.

A Tesla Cybertruck, an angular vehicle which claims to be useful for some things.

A GMod mapmaker's first func_vehicle, and just as hostile to human life.

Taking the opportunity to (again) share our car, which is 2005 Daihatsu Atrai Wagon. It cost us CAD$15k w/ a 5-year warranty and is so economic on fuel that I only refill it once every 2-3 months. A full tank is about CAD$60 despite putting 93 octane in it cuz it's turbocharged and I want it running smoother.

Our neighbor has a 2023 Range Rover Sport, which has an MSRP of minimum USD $80k. A full tank of gas is USD ~$120 on the cheapest octane.

From the spec sheets I've found, our van at maximum stowing capacity (passenger and rear seats down, which create a flat surface because the seats fold into the floor) has about 15-20 cubic feet more storage space than the Range Rover.

Sorry bro I can't be amused by all those memes of Google search AI giving insane answers like Goku helping test that your chicken is at a safe temp of 100F because they're all fake and you are being tricked into thinking these systems aren't as capable as they actually are and we don't need to worry about the effect they will have on the world.

You've got to understand half of their danger is in their subtle errors, not in their obvious ones.

I really don't give a shit about your philosophical stance about how an LLM can't be creative or your misconception that they piece together chunks of the images they ingest or your "even critically engaging with LLMs is playing into their hands, if you're not ignoring them you're complicit" venting disguised as rhetoric.

Anthropic is already getting results isolating concepts as features in their models and tweaking them to intentionally change the behavior much more reliably than just by prompting. Imagine an LLM that can literally have the concept of LGBT people disabled so that it doesn't consider them when generating responses, in a way that may not be detectable from the prompt.

I want to stay up to date on their capabilities so that when I have professional opportunities to organize against them I can do so. I don't think we can afford to ignore them, but the opposite of ignoring them is not necessarily embracing them.

Kabosu, the shiba known for the "doge" meme, has passed away at 18.

I don't think this part of her story gets told in English media much, but she was rescued from a puppy mill as a baby and all of her siblings had died. Her owner, Atsuko Sato, had said that she wanted to make sure Kabosu had an easy and happy life for the rest of her days to make up for that, and she kept her promise. She's been one lucky, happy dog.

The normal lifespan of a shiba is 15 years; she lived a very, very long life, and she was happy and comfortable in her old age. Sad she's gone but happy she lived so well while she was here. Rest in peace, Kabosu.

following this up with a little anecdote but

i've seen a lot of sentiment, on here, twitter, elsewhere, that the state of the industry is making people want to not bother with games or making them anymore... and i can totally understand that from a sentimental perspective.

but i also don't think the dire state of the industry has given me cause to give up on games as a medium. the issues we're dealing with here are not because of games. it's because of a capitalist-centric world & the way that money and advertising and the constant desire for number to go up every single quarter means that it stifles EVERYTHING.

looking beyond just the game industry, there's so much shit that's absolutely fucked right now & seeing how it's all connected is extremely important. it's easy to connect 'games' to capitalism from some not-insignificant origins in gambling (i remember when i couldn't even tell the government i worked in the games industry without them thinking i worked for the 'gaming industry' aka casinos) .... but also games come from fun, socializing, sharing experiences through mechanics design, writing, etc... there is SO MUCH to gaming that isn't rooted in making a number go higher, selling big numbers, making stockholders happy.

just like there is so much to life that is enjoyable without being drowned in advertisements, suffering with software that will never be good again due to an unreasonable attraction towards hostile updates, surveillance, and chasing tech buzzwords.

if you're feeling hopeless because of how the games industry is hurting, it's a good opportunity to look at everything else and realize how much needs to change on a much greater scale than simply video games.
