it's my very favorite time of year
I love these! I'm interested in the star lily because it looks more like a plant that (around here, Pacific Northwest) is called death camas and is in the genus Toxicoscordion. That said, common names are so unspecific that it could definitely be regional variation!
those are actually the same names i saw when i did an image search on my photo, so i wouldn't be surprised if they're closely related! c:
[extremely "has not looked at lily taxonomy in like 15 years" voice] oh man they moved around Toxicoscordion (which I learned as Zigadenus) like a lot! it's not even in the lily family anymore! and lmao apparently one thing that's called star lily is in the... asparagus family? similar flower structures are wild
whoa, i wouldn't have ever thought of that, but i can totally see it from the parts of the flower that haven't opened yet!
to be completely clear though I am pretty sure this is death camas (order Liliales) and not star lily (order Asparagales). but yeah they are quite similar in shape for the unopened part!!
