i keep getting youtube clickbait vids from bass players that are like “u won’t believe how this $20k bass sounds!!!!!” and i’ve watched a couple and they usually put them up against like a few hundred to a thousand dollar bass and it’s like yeah they both sound like a bass!

like i bet the difference in the feel of the instrument while playing it is super noticeable but as someone watching it not playing, the tone comparisons really make it feel like the cost is so not worth it. especially when they’re comparing against basses with similar styles of pickups in relatively the same position on the body. like the difference in sound between a hundred dollar bass and a thousand dollar bass is noticeable to me but beyond that idk ur just being bougie to be bougie unless it’s something truly unique

and by truly unique i mean someone give me 1.5k so i can buy an ibanez ashula. it’s literally a fretted and frettless bass as a single instrument. it looks so unwieldy yet cool and sounds incredible and i wish i could afford one. https://youtu.be/MeQe2tuPTtk?si=KYtg2ZtsB4lRX0KX

I’d agree if it was like one of those 7 strings meant for metal where they just keep adding lower strings to chug on. but the fact that it’s A/D/G and E/A/D/G in the same octaves seems really cool to me. a lot of people talk about it feeling like playing two separate instruments in one since there’s such a tonal difference between the two halves
