another little youtube bass video frustration that i’ve been noticing a lot is whenever you have like a super good bassist playing a more melodic part on a bass there’s always a shit load of comments that amount to “just use a regular guitar, that’s not what bass is for.” as though it’s not just an instrument to be used to make art in whatever way the musician sees fit. art doesn’t have rules just guidelines why are we pretending there’s a right way to do art??
fam we’re talking about an instrument that evolved from putting cello strings on a slightly larger guitar, why are you playing eighth note chord roots aren’t you supposed to be playing a vivaldi concerto with that thing chief?
