tried a 5 string multiscale bass at a shop today (not this exact one but from this manufacture and pretty similar looking pickup setup). incredibly weird instrument that i don't think i'd want to own myself but it felt really unique compared to a lot of basses i've tried. the whole idea is by adjusting the scale length per string you can get a lot cleaner intonation / it allows each string to resonate better at the corresponding lengths. like a default long scale bass is going to be 34" for each string, where as this is 37" for the B, and stepping down to 34" for the G. it also is supposed to be a little more ergonomic to play since you don't have to twist your wrist as much going further down the neck with the frets kind of fanning out from like the twelfthish fret being directly perpendicular to the strings. honestly i didn't notice much of a difference but i wasn't trying it for super long so idk. i definitely noticed my muscle memory being a little off adjusting to not moving fingers across evenly and instead at sort of an angle but i think that would adjust with time given something like that. just a kinda unique and cool instrument.
