my parents bought me this like $80 strat knockoff in middle school and it sat untouched in a closet in my parents house for like almost a decade until a couple months ago when i dug it up.

i’ve been wanting to start messing around with making or modding basses/guitars recently and didn’t wanna start with building from scratch or making a beginners mistake and damaging either of my basses so i figured turning a crummy guitar i barely play into a nice partscaster by replacing almost everything but the body would be a good starting place lol.

so far i’ve only just started pulling off the old sunburst finish and have some nitrocellulose guitar lacquer in the mail so i can hopefully refinish the body this weekend. in the future i’m going to completely replace the neck since this one is built really poorly and idk if it’s worth salvaging. the electronics aren’t the worst but i’m going to at least swap out the pickup and pickguard cause the old cheap plastic has that yellowed and kinda gross look and feel.

should be a fun little project!

the wood in the strat body was really bad and starting to rot in the control cavity so i decided to just build a telecaster from the ground up and have been slowly getting the parts together. i was going to do like an opaque off white paint but when the body blank showed up i realized the wood quality was really solid so i think i’m just going to stain it and then do a gloss coat over that.

i’m not sure what color stain yet though. the three things i’m deciding between right now are orange, butterscotch yellow, or red and i’m really undecided on which would be best. (i am open to suggestions too cause i’m indecisive on this lmao)
