yesterday the shithole megacorp pharmacy regional vice president and the district manager showed up unannounced to my pharmacy to chastise us for not meeting their metric quotas. they’re comparing our current numbers against the heavily inflated mid-pandemic numbers btw.
the district manager also really likes to do that fun corpo thing where they go around individually asking all of us open ended questions trying to provoke a response they can correct while we’re actively just trying to do our jobs. one of those questions was to my friend matt who’s one of the two pharmacists we have.
district manager: “ok so why do we want as many people as possible to get immunized?”
matt, rightfully: “to reduce the chance of patients falling ill and to lower the spread of preventable disease?”
the dm like a cartoon villain capitalist: “haha yeah sure we’ll go with that”
dm shortly after: “also make sure you’re recommending the RSV shot, that one really helps with our growth”
its just really cool that we should recommend it not because it’s for people over 60 and can help prevent them from getting a respiratory virus that can lead to pneumonia which can be fatal for older people, but instead because we want the extra insurance money since most insurances fully cover the shot and it’s not a cheap one so the company gets to pocket a fair bit of profit from it
