I have decided to use cohost as a place to document my progress in learning and playing Dragon Ball FighterZ. This is mainly just to keep track of my own progress so I can think a little more closely about what I am learning and how I am applying new knowledge.
Where did I start:
I started playing FighterZ because I read all of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z for the first time several months ago. While I had seen my fiance play through Kakarot and watched DBZ Abridged, I had never really experienced the story in its entirety. Then, I was searching for a competitive outlet (as I have recently begun to burn out on TCGs, which is what I have spent much of the last few years doing), and FighterZ is popular and has an active competitive scene. So! I decided to start playing.
Where am I now:
After about 350 competitive matches (currently ranked at Super Saiyan 2), I feel like I am getting a good understanding of the basics of the game. I'm pretty comfortable blocking long strings and am (mostly) good at not mashing as a way to get out of situations I don't like. My team right now is Android 18, Videl, and Kefla. I originally was playing Android 17 in Videl's place but I realized that he is a little too complicated for me to learn. I even tried making flash cards for all of his gears, but unfortunately having so many options at any time was hard for me to deal with. Maybe when I am up for it in the future I will try again. In any case, I have midscreen BnB's down for all three characters, and (I think) a good understanding of their strengths and weaknesses.
Where I hope to go from here:
While there are a lot of things I need to learn, I really want to try getting safejumping for okizeme down. While I have some different strategies for my characters, most of the time it amounts to me trying to catch someone with a weird j5M on Kefla or a 5S on 18 and Videl. That is my next lab outing hopefully when I get the time. I also want to learn better combos for all of them, and especially get rejump timing down for videl and 18.
