Glibness aside, I’m putting this article here just to remind myself of how unabashedly exploitative AI wishes to continue to be exploitative.

As someone who is in tech, I really want to be a techno-optimist in the sense that I want to see new technology be used for good. It’s possible deep learning can be used for something good, but not when it’s being steered by for-profit companies who have investors to please.

Calling copyright laws “regimes”* [when applied to them] and saying that billionaires have “already invested billions of dollars” in AI technologies with the assumption they wouldn’t have to deal with led is some of the most two-faced, paternalistic BS I’ve heard.

*Note: as @NireBryce pointed out, in this case the use of “regime” is neutral in reference to a system. Words like “chill/impede innovation,” for instance, are not neutral.
