playing around with music that can still work even if things aren't technically in time with each other! theoretically, you should be able to play any of these layers, in any combination/order, at any time, and it should still sound good. hopefully??

that's a good question, i don't know of any specific name for it! i hear it most often in ambient music
i think "aleatory music" would cover the general concept

I think it's missing something like maybe pause/play having a tiny fade period so you don't get hard start/stop
I love doing layered pseudo-generative music! It's a great way to get a lot of texture for not a lot of effort.
