I rewatched it on the plane flight, and it's fine, it's a fine movie. It's even got a couple of decent ideas in it. Not executed amazingly all the time, but usually competently. Yeah it has the spectre of the USAF and that sucks a lot (do we really need more women launching missiles out of planes?). I do like that the movie is about grappling with what it means to remove yourself from a genocidal nation (while conveniently not calling attention to the fact that the movie is talking about the US)

The move is also gay. Like, obviously gay to get by Disney. But really gay. Like raise a child together with another woman levels of gay. This child even calls her auntie. Yes, just gals being pals being two moms to a little girl. There's never even mention of this girl having a dad, just mom and auntie. This is why I find the movie charming. It's table scraps but it's better than a lot of other attempts at rep in big Hollywood

Barbie beats the shit out of this though, thank you trans doctor barbie

Personally a huge fan of how they turned Fury's missing eye into the punchline of a joke and how frothing mad a bunch of dudes got about it because they desperately wanted to see the fake story he made up to explain it actually be what happened.
