This is one of the reasons that I adore Escaflowne so much. Yeah, there are "ways" that things could have been "handled better". It's imperfect. It's also deeply, viscerally meaningful to me, for all its possible (and present) problems.

Really gratifying to revisit older media that you recall kinda deals with this stuff and see it handled with such grace and humanity. Especially with a plot outline that could easily have gone in a real bad direction.
