I'm a writer who has also taught writing and good god is it hard explaining what makes good storytelling on like a writing mechanics level (let's face it this is also a matter of developing a style)
The other thing is it, like everything is dependent on context, and that's part of what being a skilled writer is, knowing what fits your context, knowing how and when to push the confines of that context
For basic mechanical things I generally tend towards trying to capture the way people speak and then playing with it, though this is very much only one approach, and it can lead to fairly terse writing (if you've ever read my non scripts, they have a script vibe to them)
It all ultimately comes back to conveying feeling and emotion in addition to information without just coming out and saying what things are
