SRE, language lover, I like games that are way too long. I own four separate swords (so far) and could fly a plane before I could drive.

hey quantum! i'm a pretty experienced fighting game player, and I understand the input weirdness at the start. One, I will say: gitting gud, it's pretty gud! But you can mitigate some of the problems you're having by conceptualizing the inputs as physical motions rather than in pure directions. A half-circle is just rolling your fingers back across all your directions, so sort of drum through the motion like you might drum your fingers when you're impatiently awaiting something, and then hit toward and the HS button at the same time. Similarly, conceptualizing the SRK motion (the dragon punch/overhead kiss) as two pieces can be helpful for getting your fingers to act appropriately. First, you tap forward. Easy! Next, immediately perform a quarter circle motion and tap the button (I think it's K for overhead kissu!) quickly after. You'll short the quarter circle and tap the button while holding down-forward if you do it perfectly, but usually the game will accept forward>quarter circle forward as a DP/SRK if you don't have a quarter-circle-forward on that button already. Hope this all helps!<3

Thank you so much for this! I started reconceptualising like you said, dropped back into training mode and it's immediately so much easier to get the inputs (at least on their own). Next step is to get back to trying to learn to include them in a combo, but I'm feeling a lot more confident than I was before, even after just a day-ish

I recently started getting into Guilty Gear Strive (I'm loving May :D), but it's my first ever fighting game and I'm running into Issues.

I've got three options for how I control the game, and I've hit hurdles with all three. The first, which I was able to discount almost immediately, was controller using the L stick for motion inputs. This basically just didn't work, I kept accidentally jumping or ducking, whiffing motion inputs, and the game itself seems to suggest not using the stick by giving input instructions with a d-pad.
