and I knew some telegraph offices sparked and caught fire during the flares but I didn't know they they continued to send messages purely on the geomagnetic current, no batteries at all. Apparently this went on for hours!!

its great when things in real life are named like the inciting event in a scifi series. the next one will probably be a inciting event for a bunch of History, but will be called like "Magnastorm Gertrude"
