Part 1 of my very late: what I crocheted in 2023. (Specifically what I completed and feel like sharing with the world)

  1. A skull cap beanie for my partner. I’m inclined to frog this and try again.
  2. Lunar New Year rabbit for one of the kiddos I used to nanny.
  3. A silly little heart garland for v-day. Cuz why not?
  4. 3 cowl rainbow cowl scarves for me and the 2 kids I used to nanny.

More to come!

  1. A purple beanie for on of the kids I used to nanny.
  2. A sensory baby blanket for a friend’s new baby.
  3. A bag for a kid I used to nanny.
  4. A silly little blanket for my baby cat, who is a full grown adult but acts like a baby.

More to come!

  1. Can cozy with trans pride yarn!
  2. A little baby crow for a kid I currently nanny.
  3. A baby blanket for my partner’s friend.

And that’s all! Gonna add image descriptions later, if I can. And maybe write up my thoughts and feelings on my work last year? We shall see. I’m babysitting tonight so I suspect I’ll have plenty of time on my hands after bedtime.

Phew! I had this idea to share my projects from last year and it’s taken me til now to do it!

Crochet has become a very important central part of my life! It’s awakened a creative part of me that I’ve always longed for. I’ve always wanted to be artistic and to express my creativity, but I could never find a medium or outlet that worked for me or that I vines with. Sometimes I think time and place is part of the equation. My mom had taught me how to crochet when I was kid. And I liked it, thought it was cool, but the interest fizzled. When I finally picked it up again, a few years ago, I really hit the spot and I never lost interest. Before trying crochet again I had tried knitting for the first time. It was incredibly hard for me and I gave up. So I had that perspective. And I think as 30 something adult I also just had the patience for crochet that I didn’t have as a kid. I also think there’s a conceptual aspect too, like my brain is actually able to understand the mechanics of it now. Which honestly has me so enthralled. I suspect I’m neurodivergent, or at least traumatized, and I’ve been allowing myself to just do the things I want, follow my whims and urges. I’ve found crochet to be comforting and to itch a spot in my brain as I count and plan and visualize and change the pattern and lay it all out. It’s exciting to create something and have it look good and then be loved.

Also, this must have been the year of the blanket for me! I made my first ever blanket and then made 2 more! Granted they were for babies/cats, so they were small. But wow! I plan to make at least 1 baby blanket this year. I’m honing in on a pattern design, I’ll try to share my ideas here when I start the project. I have a cool idea that I want to work out and make an official pattern for others to use.

And it seems pretty clear to me that I love to make things for the kids I nanny. It brings me so much joy!
