In June 2022—and with the support of the Machinists Union—workers at a Towson, Maryland Apple store became the first unionized Apple store in the United States. But approaching two years later and after a full year's worth of negotiations, the store is still without a contract. Now the store's workers are threatening Apple with a strike action if they continue to bargain in bad faith.
It's taken two full years and the above threat of striking for this to finally occur, but—as of today the Towson Apple store is likely to become the first with a collective bargaining agreement in the US! As reported in the Baltimore Banner, this agreement includes:
- Pay increases averaging 10% over the term of the contract
- An increase in starting pay for many job positions
- Scheduling protections for part time and full time employees
- A disciplinary process with “protections and accountability”
It will have a term of three years if ratified. Congratulations!
