RPG actual play podcasts:

  • superidols! is a masks actual play set in a world where a mysterious event allowed ordinary people to gain music-themed Idol Powers. a group of teens try to make their own idol group and compete with others to rise to the top of the charts. listening to this is what inspired me to run my own masks game.
  • waypoint is another masks actual play about three misfit teens coming to the superhero capital of the world, the city waypoint, where they form a team together when their application to join the justice league analogue is denied. i'm not very far into this one but i like the cast a lot

narrative podcasts:

  • mayfair watchers society is a horror anthology podcast set in the fictional town of mayfair, which is beset by strange occurrences and bizarre monsters. it can be pretty hit or miss but when it hits, it hits. the episode "church musical" is a particular standout

regular podcasts:

  • ARGonauts is a podcast about ARGs, where one of the hosts leads the other step-by-step through the story and puzzles of an ARG. they've covered lots of famous ARGs (i love bees, cloverfield, the lost experience) as well as a bunch of obscure small ones. lots of fun to listen to
  • the shrieking shack was a harry potter recap podcast by two lapsed harry potter fans, but they finished going through the series and the author publicly outed herself as one of the worst people to ever live, so now they've pivoted to covering other influential YA series like twilight and the hunger games. it is a very funny show by two queer people who are absolutely sick of rowling's shit. if you don't want to listen to the potter stuff you can skip to the more recent non-potter stuff which starts at episode 163 for twilight or SHHG! 1 for hunger games

History podcasts my husband liked the most:

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-history-of-yugoslavia/id1234037631 or http://ethnopolis.co.uk/2017/04/ history of yugoslavia. Vague memory of some of the earlier episodes being weaker? In any case heres a very special episode about Montenegro http://ethnopolis.co.uk/the-history-of-yugoslavia-episode-5-5-the-black-mountain/

https://www.dancarlin.com/product/hardcore-history-56-kings-kings/ Ancient iran podcast (just one ep iirc)

Suki also listened to a lot of the trivia podcast “Good Job, Brain” over the years

http://almostforgotten.squarespace.com/podcast/2019/5/21/episode-56-the-hussite-wars-part-1 This series was also pretty good, also interested in the podcaster’s variety in general

Havent checked out yet but interested in the revolutions podcast:
https://www.audible.com/podcast/Revolutions/episodes/B08JJND976?ref_pageloadid=not_applicable&ref=a_podcast_R_c3_episodes_view_all&pf_rd_p=625c212d-b95a-47db-8d56-d35a359de6e9&pf_rd_r=1WKVWXGZ43AFH6FBT4VC&pageLoadId=LEA419O2038xndId&creativeId=6c5159d7-bb10-4fb4-929b-ae2b2f5000c7 So each revolution is given a number with a subnumber, so like 7 is the 1848 revolutions, so 7.05 talking about the Italian aspect. 3.0 is french revo, 4.0 haitian, 5.0 spanish colonies, 10.0 is tje last one with the russian revo with many episodes of background on marxism and tsarist russia

One thing i do i listen to history vids while i do other stuff, since sometimes youtube vids work for that, some ones that may work:

https://youtu.be/_i54q6j3rtc?si=pPaxep_nKKvjWcTT

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6wKur11fXHc

https://youtu.be/dPUVlVmwHc0?si=5r6fujakbD8C-Q1r

https://youtu.be/tUXBKWZReKY?si=5Mf0QkYwg3Bm86Rs

https://youtu.be/pxZmZFVzB_E?si=YkogV4M48a7l9Aed

But also my ability to gauge “oh this isnt great for people who dont know about X” may be off.

history podcasts:

revolutions (now completed)
tides of history
China History Podcast / Chinese Sayings Podcast

politics/current events/commentary:
American Prestige
If Books Could Kill

most other things i listen to are "interest specific"!

dark dice is a horror 5E podcast that has a lot of production value, I used to listen to it during electrolysis sessions and rather enjoyed it

also if you like Jeff goldblum he's in season 2 of it apparently??? I never got that far tho
