rough character concept for a fabula ultima game i'm about to start playing in.
i can't really come up with too much of her backstory because part of the first session is building the world and establishing the character relationships together, but i decided i wanted to play an obnoxious gambler who will cause problems for everyone ^_^ the sort of person who just kinda does whatever they want because their good luck has always worked out so far so why wouldn't it continue?
shes gonna fight with a rapier and shuriken reskinned as cards. also she's just a normal human but the rpg casino she works at is dragon themed.
got to flesh out her world and backstory a little bit last night. her "Identity" is 'Disgraced Gambler of the High Seas'
she comes from a huge pleasure ship that has casinos and basically a whole red light district in it and is higher-tech than the other surrounding nations, the "Sea Dragon's Hoard". it sails around the shores of these nations hoping to tempt the aristocrats of those nations to come gamble their money away and get drunk and spill secrets. by being on the water and constantly moving, they can't be held accountable by any nation's laws but their own.
they're not REALLY a nation but given the large number of people living and working there full time, many people in other countries do think of them as a small country even if they're not officially. they have a military and weapons since they bring all kinds of people on board.
Elodia was once the #1 requested hostess, card dealer, dancer, and all around party girl on the boat, with a reputation for never losing when playing casino games against guests. Part of the key to her success as a hostess was her reputation bringing in arrogant customers who wanted to be the one to beat her.
Shortly before the events of our game started, she was challenged by a diplomat from another region. The stakes were very high: if Elodia won, the diplomat would pull strings and get the Sea Dragon's Hoard officially recognized as a nation, opening them up to more official trade routes, alliances, and respect from other countries. the mysterious diplomat asked for, idk some relic or important historical artifact that the casino was holding bc it's valuable. (i'm just leaving hooks for the GM to use later maybe.)
Elodia's popularity and winning reputation made her an easy choice as the ship's representative in the big game. it was going to be a huge show to unite the people living and working on the boat. if you need a win, just send in the lucky girl who never loses!
she lost, and worse than that, someone set her up to look like she was cheating (who exactly is yet to be decided, but she's convinced it was the diplomat who showed up to propose the game). her and the casino's reputation plummetted as viewers wondered if their idol had ever been the "Lady Luck" they thought she was, or if she had just been cheating the whole time.
Elodia was immediately left in the nearest sleepy port town with enough money for a week's lodgings. She's now dead set on tracking down whoever set her up and asking some questions before beating them up. She's very bratty, spoiled, and selfish because she's used to being treated and being the center of attention as a party girl. she's adjusting to life as an adventurer rather than the luxurious life of a superstar gambler...
