i think it's very very sad that so many people online have been bullied or harassed by some toxic gamer insisting that they MUST play their game Right and Well to the point where they feel afraid to want to push themselves and improve.

i'm the type of person who wants to do as well as i can at any type of game i play... if it's something i love then i'll optimize and try to figure out the most efficient and strongest way to do things. i think it can be really fun and rewarding to seek that stuff out in the things you like.

while i feel pity for people who've been burned by others, it does feel a little sad to me when people are just turned off from pushing themselves forever. it feels soooo common in final fantasy xiv, where at least in the english speaking community there seems to be a large crowd of people that's very adamant about "Don't tell me how to play the game or my job". just extreme sensitivity to any direction or advice no matter how well-meaning.

it feels particularly weird in this context because (aside from PVP of course) all the real content in the game is PvE... it's co-op... you ought to be doing your best for the sake of the other 7 people in your party... you should press the buttons for the job you queued up for... if you queued as a "Damage per Second" job you should be aiming to do as much Damage per Second as you can.

i do not agree that wanting your teammates to be pushing their buttons in the hardest content in the game is the same as asking them to minmax every little thing but sometimes that's how people act. (damage matters, doing 100% max damage does not)

idk it just sucks that too many people being rude means that the average player skill remains low and nobody wants to do anything about it or listen to anyone else about it.

it feels good to be bad at a thing and get better at it over time with more trying and practice! people should trust in their abilities to grow and learn new things before they deteriorate entirely
