I need to learn how to build these models so bad

you will need:

  • blockbench
  • image editor
-- of your choice, i recommend paintnet or aseprite
-- technically optional but, blockbench's painting tools are clunky
  • minecraft java w/ figura installed
-- a fixed-camera mod is also really helpful if you can find any out there
  • text editor
-- of your choice, i recommend notepad++ so you get lua highlighting
-- technically optional, but all of the really cool stuff involves lua scripting

there's a really helpful getting-started tutorial playlist on youtube.

here are useful resources for the lua side of things:

there's a lot of community resources for figura too but theyre all stuffed away in a fucking discord server, because of-fucking-course they are. i think all of the mod's pages across various mod sites include a link.

good luck n have fun :3

I want to add that this post did in fact inspire me to download these tools and mods, and I also made all of my friends download them so they could look at my avatar, which inspired some of them to make their own! Blockbench is surprisingly intuitive, I consider myself to be fairly inexperienced when it comes to art but I was able to make this! I had a bit of a technical leg up with having worked with rigs before, but the video guide definitely pulled me through where I might otherwise get stuck. If you enjoy Minecraft and also being a Creature I would absolutely recommend it even if it's the only mod you have installed!

As far as programming is concerned, Lua is a pretty easy language to start with. More experienced programmers can sit down and learn the whole thing in a couple hours, standard libraries included. That means less time spent learning the nuances of Lua specifically, and more time learning basic concepts and getting the right mindset.
