@irina asked:

for a while i have like occasionally seen your posts and wondered why they're in a generic serif - "why would anyone replace atkinson hyperlegible with that?' i thought.

only just realised (thanks chutils) they're all comic sans, and it's because i dont have any of the fonts installed. oops

you... don't have comic sans installed??? It came free with your fucking pc!! do you have the oldest pc known to man or something???????

in reply to @quwyou's post:

linux (and also, android)

i ripped a bunch of the windows fonts (partially to have them, partially to try and fix issues running software on linux that the developer does not want me to run on linux) but some of them are harder to rip than others and i haven't got them all

I somehow had the foresight to say "came free with your pc" instead of "came free with your windows" bc I did not know what OS you had but I failed to consider that having a different OS might limit what fonts you had

apparently the way to get Lucida used to be to rip it out of a java installer, and the way that winetricks gets calibri is to download a powerpoint file with the font embedded and then rip it out

fonts are good example of why copyright should be 20 years or less

might be linux. a lot of linux systems (especially if you aren’t using a desktop environment) come with pretty minimal font sets by default, and even in things like gnome or kde the comic sans font is not necessarily a default package
