In my economics classes, we specifically contrasted Malthusianism (that there is limited carrying capacity) with modern economic theory which has infinite growth. This was at Carnegie Mellon which is one of the founders of modern neoliberal economics.

Small rant: I had a neoliberal friend who was an avid believer in capitalism and understood that it required infinite population growth, but at the same time didn't want to subsidise people having kids because he believed it was their personal responsibility still thought it was people's personal choice to have children and therefore they needed to take full responsibility for the costs
