(i know, said no one ever, right)

i've been giving serious consideration to finally updating OBS to v29; i have been sitting on v27 for months because a lot of my plugins and Kruiz-Control scripting will need to be updated or replaced, and i just haven't had the spoons to deal with All That

WELL

last night i learned that StreamFX, an extremely popular pack of filters and new source types that i make extensive use of for my avatar and associated channel point redemptions, has gone behind a paywall, and the author has deleted all existing binaries due to "license violations" and shunted all discussion from GitHub to (sad clown noises) The Discord. on top of all that, there is no stable v29 build yet due to breaking changes in OBS, and no indication as to when that might happen

apparently there are some alternative plugins to replace missing filters/sources, but using them still means rebuilding a whole lot of stuff from scratch, and there's no good alternative to Dynamic Masks, aside from some trickery involving source blending modes that is explained in... a YouTube video, and...

fuck me. why do i even bother.

I've been through the pain of updating Kruiz-Control once. It lets me do some really cool things I wouldn't be able to do easily (or at all) otherwise, but I also hate being dependent on it. I...had not found out about StreamFX yet. That sucks. Even apart from the time I'd have to spend tracking down alternatives and rebuilding my scenes, I really don't want to replace one dependency with several.
