what if we changed everything just slightly in ways that leave multiple people noticing something is different but unable to tell what actually changed

i love modern software so much

Horror Software: Software designed to fill its users with a constant sense of unease and confusion.

You know something is wrong, but you're not sure what or how... and the next time you open the app, something else will change. You'll wonder whether you're imagining it. You'll ask your friends "hey am I crazy or ..." and they'll nod and go "I think so too" or they'll say "I didn't notice anything" because it turns out that they're using a different version that wasn't affected by the update, or it's actually part of an A/B test and you're in the Treatment group and they're in the Control group.

not to distastefully imply that discord devs are literally murderers or something but the Manson family, pre-murders, used to sneak into people's homes and re-arrange their furniture, and they called it "creepy-crawling", and sometimes i just. feel like i've been creepy-crawled upon, a bit

my light switch will never decide to peel itself off the wall and move a few inches because some dipshit thought it looked better that way, and frankly i think software should work the same way

i'm never a fan of discord's ui changes and this is yet another one in the category of "subtle but deeply unsettling". this change is just So Wrong why did they fuck around again. why can't software just look the same

god, fuckin a/b tests. it's really great when rachel and i somehow get different versions of a website despite being in the same fuckin household! twitch has done this to us a few times in fun ways

like it was bad back in the day where it was a sudden, jarring change, like youtube's infamous redesigns. but these days it's all subtle micro-changes rolled out only a little bit at a time, reality being rewritten for people slowly just to make sure everyone goes insane
